Arthritis treatment

Arthritis is a very common disease affecting dogs of all breeds, ages, and sizes.  With more advanced imaging than ever before, we are able to more effectively identify, localize, and treat this very painful condition.  The good news is that there are more options than ever for treating the pain, which can be debilitating, that accompanies arthritis in pets.

For instance, we have several medications, such as Deramaxx, Rimadyl, Metacam, and Previcox, which are all NSAIDS, and can be extremely helpful in treating joint pain.  There is another newer medication, called Galliprant, which is an option for those pets who may not be able to tolerate one of the other NSAIDS.  Some of the natural options for improving joint health, include Glyoflex and Movoflex, which can be extremely beneficial.  Adequan is an injectable medication that is often given as a series of injections.

In addition to medical options, we also offer nutritional counseling, which can be very helpful in helping pets lose those stubborn extra pounds, taking some of the pressure off of the affected joints.

The treatment of osteoarthritis in pets can be very rewarding for us, as we get to see pets who are suffering with significant pain often times return to a much more normal quality of life and start enjoying their regular activities again.  These are just a few examples of the available options, there are many more treatments available.  If your pet has slowed down, or does not enjoy the same activities he or she once did, give us a call at 405-359-6301.  We would be happy to help you with a plan to help your pet.
